Pastel Works
In Pastel Works I wanted to access the softness that can be found in pastel colors.
They remind me of old black and white photographs that have been colored.
When working with pastels, the contrasts are reduced.
Something that I normally prefer and strive to highlight in my portraits.
Another appealing part of pastel, is the pearly shimmer that occurs when the colors are light and soft in character.
There is a certain romanticism about pastel tones, there is a tradition of ballerinas illuminated by stage lights and beautiful pale female portraits painted in this technique. Because of this tradition, I wanted to see to, that many different faces, looks, were represented in this collection and not just the normatively beautiful ones.
